I know this has nothing to do with my diet and I am going to update that shortly but I just had to find a place to save this and so here it is. I am not willing to argue this point, I just found it quite a fun little story that I wanted to hold onto. Father - Daughter Talk A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words, redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his. One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?' She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. But she is so very popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.' Her father asked her, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend Audrey, who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA. The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That's a crazy idea. How would that be fair? I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work. Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!' The father slowly smiled, winked, and said gently, 'Welcome to the Republican Party...'

A new beginning!

Well it has been over a year since I have posted here, so sad to say the least. I was on a roll from Feb to April of last year. I was doing so well in February and March, but the wheel started to fall of in early to mid April. I was not feeling well, kidney stones, hemorrhoids and just very lethargic. SO I stopped being raw, and went back to my old ways and old habits! The saddest thing about me giving up is looking at myself today and just wondering, if I had had just a little more perseverance, where I might be today!
After giving up in April, and going back to my old habits, I managed to balloon back up past my previous high weight and managed to hit 350 lbs. by June of 2011 I was miserable, my cloths didn't fit, I had no energy and all I wanted to do was sit on the couch and watch TV, or play on the internet. My blood sugar was up and dangerously close to being classified a type II diabetic, my blood pressure was usually in the stage II hypertension range. I knew something had to change and I knew this time it had to be different! I had tried three times previously to go raw, to get my self healthy, and it didn't work and I could not get it done, so this time had to be different. I had to really figure out what worked for me!
Every time I went raw in the past I would do lots of smoothies, lots of dehydrated goodies, lots of FAT! So starting off in July I just tried to make as good of choices as I could. Then I got back on YouTube and started looking for ways to help control my sugar. As fate would have it, I cam across, this crazy quack from the land down under named Harley Johnston aka Durianrider. The first video I watched I was like this guy is a nut job! Laying on the ground with some fruit peels beside him saying he ate to much fruit and got diabetes. I almost stopped the video and moved on but something told me to watch it out, so I did. My life changed that night, I watched a bunch of Harley's videos that evening, and I started to get the whole sugar myth being perpetuated about sugar causing diabetes. I had always heard about LFRV (Low Fat Raw Vegan) when I was trying to be raw, but every time I heard about it someone was bad mouthing it. So I always wrote it off as quackery. But here was this Aussie, that was fit as can be screaming at me that you will never succeed if you do not get enough fresh sweet fruit! So I started to try and up my fruit intake and lower some of my fat intake.
Then August 7th 2011we were having birthday parties for two of my children at their great grandmothers nursing home, my in-laws brought pizza as they normally do, you know the meat and cheese kind from Pizza Hut MMMMMM I ate a few pieces and we brought some of the left over pizza home. I ate two more pieces for dinner, then I went to watch some more Durianrider you tube videos, then it happened, I saw the video where he shows the cattle lined up waiting for the bolt gun to their heads! I saw the fear in their eyes! Then I watched as one of these cows that was hoisted in the air by one back leg and dripping blood from it's slashed neck, I watched in horror as the butcher was skinning the head of this animal as it screamed in agony! Can you imagine being skinned alive?!?! I mean a bolt gun to the head did not kill this animal, then the slashed jugulars bleeding profusely, still has not removed the life from this animal, and then the butcher starts skinning this animals head while it was still alive and fully conscious! You know who the real animal in the video is, the human beings causing that harm! Then I had to find more, I had to find if this was the norm or just an isolated case? Well it is not isolated, video after video after video is out there to prove that fact! Yep the last animal product I consumed was those last two pieces of PH pizza!
So how and what am I doing today a little over a month later? Well I am eating a Vegan diet that is mostly fruits and veg. I have not went completely raw, I am eating raw most days for Breakfast and lunch, and typically a cooked vegan dinner. How do I feel, really good, better than I ever did on my high fat raw attempts! Can I keep this up this time? Well always before it was about me, and my health, today it is mostly about the animals! There is no reason for this cruelty to happen except taste. Animals do not need to be eaten, it is not a requirement of the human body to consume animal flesh, we are actually herbivores, not omnivores and certainly not carnivores!
I have much more I would like to write but I am bringing this days blog to a close for now, If you are watching go ahead and drop me a line to say I am watching and I want to see more! :)

Blessings, Peace and Love!

April 7th 2010

First off a quick Happy Birthday yesterday to my little brother Andrew, I know you have been watching over us for 40 years now, and it is comforting to know that you are sitting with God and smiling down upon us!

Brandy and I are still doing really good, Easter Sunday was a little rough and we fell off the path that day, but we knew we were going to and we jumped right back on and that is what is important. I am moving my focus only slightly, the more I read and the more I learn I am beginning to believe that 100% Raw Vegan is not the only answer. However I still believe that a super high raw vegan lifestyle is the rout I am taking. I never said from the beginning I would be 100% anything, except for 100% committed to getting healthy! What I am concentrating on is eating 98 to 99% whole foods, I still believe processed food are killing the people of this world! I am thinking 95% vegan and 95% raw and when I eat the other 5% (cooked) it needs to be whole foods!

I honestly believe that most people could cure there obesity, just by simply eliminating processed foods from there diet. Six things that are making us fat and killing us are #1 partially hydrogenated vegetable oil #2 high fructose corn syrup #3 monosodium glutamate (MSG) #4 enriched bleached flour #5 processed cane sugar #6 artificial sweeteners All of the above are chemically made processed junk, and two to three of each are in almost every bit of boxed or canned food that we buy on the shelf, sometimes all of them are contained in one item! Something as unassuming as coffee mate has the first two ingredients on its label as PHVO and HFCS

Do some research and learn about the 6 things I listed, and for your own sake do not go to the manufacturer or FDA website to do your research! But I think you will be amazed at what the studies that have been done show about how this stuff effects our bodies!

Oh and one more quick note, if your toothpaste has fluoride in it, throw it away! Fluoride is a toxic waste product that is destroying our thyroid function, which in turn is screwing up our hormone production which is a big part of the obesity in this country, let alone all of the other bad side effects of this toxic waste!

Have a healthy day,
Scott
